Day1: Taichung
Hopped onto a huge 20 seater bus called the 'fei1 gou3' (fly dog) just outside the airport after BK breakfast at about 10am to head on to our 1st destination- Taichung City
Arrived after 2+ hr of bus ride, we managed to find our hotel for the nite. Han4 Ni2 Dun4 Da4 Fan4 Dian4.
We proceeded to the streets near the area.
We had a very satisfying lunch. I had Crab egg seafood paper steamboat set which cost only NT$160.
My succulent lunch set
Jess had her udon with beer-look alike honey red tea
CP and his dory fish set
This is the place wher we had our sumptous lunch, after a night being stuck in the airport…
We proceed to some SHOPPING. The shops near our hotel werent that fantestic, nothing spectial to entice people to shop. Thus we took a bus to some streets near a University. Its was totally different atmosphere there, well-dressed youngsters bustling from streets to streets. The malls there sold stuffs are comparable to those at the basement of Fast East. Bought a green mid-drift jacket for NT$250 and a pair of shoes for NT$290. Jess bought a pair of sparkling earings and a pair of sunglasses while CP bought some tees.
We wandered off few streets to a ‘ye4 shi4’ (night market) and had our dinner there. Had tako balls with wasabi, fried and BBQ big mushrooms (fried one taste better) and… sth else, just slip out of my mind.
The traffic at Taichung was quite a chaos. The streets are filled with mostly scooters. Most of them are females. It dawned to me that bikes can also use the pedestrian crossing. Oh my! One thing that amaze me is how the locals managed to squeeze all their shopping bads undear the seats of their scooters. A family of 4 travelled around on just 1 bike. It is miraculous for dogs tamed to sit still in front of the rider, on the platform where they rest their legs.
Look! How a scooter trying to save time by crossing the pedestrian crossing insteading of waiting for the red traggic light to turn green
The pedestrian need not succumb to cars and scooters, otherwise you will nv be able to cross the road. It was kinda of a different culture there. When u need to get to the opposite of the road, just cross, no cars will give way to you if u showed any signs of hesitation.
We muddled through the streets to find some bus that would bring us back to our hotel. It was quite amazing how CP managed to find the bus stop with the right bus. Although we took the wrong direction, we still managed to find our way back. There were mobile TV airing local variet show in the bus! That night, we turned in at about mid-night, rest for the journey next morning to Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area.
