Day8: HongKong- Lantau Island, Mongkok, Causewaybay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Lau Kwai Fong

Day8: HongKong- Lantau Island, Mongkok, Causewaybay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Lau Kwai Fong We woke up especially early… 6.15am. Because according to jessica, we had to be early inorder not to get stuck in long queue for yumcha. Reached Mongkok via MTR. Had a sumptous meal or century egg porriage, siew mai, ha gao, etc.. we each forked out HK$46 for it. Jess was enjoying her ji qiong fan and reading her magz while I attack on the porriage
Bought a 1 day MTR ticket for HK$50 and we travelled to Tung Chung where we took a mini bus to Lantau Island, Po Lin Monastary . It was a bumpy journey. Somehow I quite enjoy it, as if I’m on a rollarcoaster. I felt myself lifted off slightly from the seat, especially when we were seated at the last row. It was very cloudy and misty. The face of the buddha was not visible. Paid entry fee of HK$13 and started climbing the long stairs that lead to the interior of the huge buddha statue. We were not allowed to take any photos in the interior where there placed many paintings, cravings and some scriptures. I dun understand most of the cravings and paintings. These were quite alien to me. There were quite a few of temples with statues of different ‘members of the heaven kingdom’. We had a simple complementary vegetarian meal at the canteen. I like the tau hui.. as there is a strong ginger taste. After that, we returned to Mongkok and did some shopping at the ladies market. Bought a tee for my bro at HK$70 and some accessories. After being to so many of these ye4shi4 in Taiwan, I wasn’t quite impressed with the ladies market which share many similarities. We had desserts at Xu3liu2shan1- treat from CP! Forgot to snap a photo, too distracted by the foul-smelling beancurb. We then embarked on a searching adventure for the ‘Han4bao3jiu3lo2’, a restaurant strongly recommended by Jess. After more than 2hours of scouring from Mongkok to TsimShaTsi, a shopkeeper told us that all chains of the restaurants in HK had already closed down! It was already 7pm and hunger striked. I had shrimp dumpling mee for dinner.
I must say it was good and economical. We were just in time for the show, ‘Symphony of lights’ at 8pm in an open space in TsimShaTsui. The show was actually quite lousy, just some laserlight flickering disorderly from the top of the skyscrappers on opposite, HK island across the river , I could not spot any pattern. Nevertheless, the nightview of the harbour was picturesque. A very symbolic icon of HK.
The scenic nightview
The Clock Tower
We took the star ferry to Central pier. It ride is only HK$2.2, unduly cheap. The ferry brings back some childhood memories in me. Anyway, the ferry ride is similar to those to Sentosa island years ago. Snapped a photo while rotting at the fountain
We stoned at a fountain for half an hr, before making our way down to Lan Kwai Fong. At Lan Kwai Fong
The ambience is a resemblance of Clarke Quay or even better. Many youngsters walking down the street with a bottle of beer in their hands, ready to greet anyone that came into their way. Once more, I had this inferior feeling.. our dressing were quite a turndown. Haha, in the end, we decided to chill out at Starbucks instead. Stoning and making a fool of ourselves for 2hr or so there, before heading back to hotel at midnight. All thanks to Miss Jess and her ‘egg’. I remarked: lucky I dun live in HK, no one recognise me. This is one of the eggS, the culprit!
