interview
Tuesday, August 02, 2005

I was finally invited for an interview at 2.30pm. It was my 1st interview since Convocation. I was 10mins early. Realised my name was first on the list. After showing the HR my certs, I was told to wait at the waiting area. It was a very nice place, there were water for us. Got hold of a couple of company’s magz and newsletters. Flipping them very briefly, I was not able to read any of those lengthy words, not even browsing through every page. I just want to keep my hands busy and trying to contain my nervousness. About 10mins later, I heard the candidate after me came. His sparkling eyes caught my attention. He was also in the same tour group as me a wk ago. We had a short tour the previous wk around the workplace. We briefly exchanged smiles while he sat down on the sofa and I continued flipping the magz. It was very considerable of the company to have prepared a jug of water for the interviewees. And he was a nice chap to ask if I wanted a drink as he was going to get one. I was kinda surprised that such a gentleman still exist in the present world, if so it is just a wee minority. I decided to be friendly and strike a conversation with him. in a way, to dilute the tense atmosphere prior an interview. I got to know his name, he is also a fresh grad from ntu, eee. He used to be quite active in hall activities and he happened to know Qiuyi from my sch too. The company in question is a plush establishment, which overlooks punctuality. The THREE interviewers finally strolled into the room 15mins later and HR personal treat them like emperors, asking them what drink they would like to have. Coffee? Coffee black? Or tea? He and I was quite taken aback as there are 3 of them interviewing us. 5mins later, I was called to enter the room. I was still hot on my nerves, still unable to reeled from shock. It was the first time I had a panel of interviewers staring at me. Having greeted them, I sat down as they browsed through my resumes. However one of them was still on the phone. That was very rude I thought. Anyway he told the other 2 to go ahead and start bombarding me first. I was halfway waxing lyrically about myself when that stewpig interviewer jarred on my nerve by banging his hp on the table. As he was sitting right infront of me, it badly distracted me. I kept my eyes averted. If only that particular old man could pardon himself, I might have been more forgiving of what I encountered and wouldn’t take it as a personal affront. Sighz….anyway, the questions they prepared werent quite what I anticipated. I honestly think I may have sealed my own fate with this careless oversight. The interview lasted for less than 15mins. I knew chance was pretty slim. There was an ominous ring because I can see that they were not impressed by me. As I left the room, I saw another interviewee waiting outside. Competition was fierce I thought. As the EEE guy gave me a jaunty smile and said bye to me, I was gracious enough to wish him and the other interviewee good luck. Left the building very swifty.
